The bigger question is the 15 minute thermal barrier behind a combustible
tub/shower. If the plans do not take into account the barrier material,
typically drywall, it doesn't matter how small the bathroom -- sprinkler head
required. I typically look at the rough opening shown on the building plans.
If the RO is 5'-00" they did not account for anything behind the tub/shower
unit (fiberglass), that RO would have to be 5'-1". Then figure out how the
plumber is going to maintain that barrier when he puts in his pipes and valves.

Subject: bathrooms in dwelling units.

This may be an old controversy, but I need to get it cleared up. When
calculating the area of a bathroom for the possible omission of sprinklers, do
you include the area of the tub/shower? I believe you do, but this has come up
again and I would like a clarification.
