My pleasure Duane, thanks for saying.
I use FDS-SMV (Fire Dynamics Simulator-Smokeview. FDS does the calculations
and out-puts numbers. Smokeview is a 3D graphical representation of the
results of the calculations (my favorite part). The software has been under
development for 20+ years, and available to the public for about 12 years. I
have been using it for 6 years, and the more I learn, the less arbitrary
NFPA #13 becomes :).
I should mention, instead of starting the fire and letting it grow at some
rate, the heat release rate went from 0 to 2 MW in 1 sec, similar to the
'oven plunge test' method of measuring RTI. I am now curious to see the
activation times under more natural conditions.
If you or any Forumites are interested in getting into FDS, I would be happy
to help you over any initial humps you might be having trouble getting over,
off Forum of course, and over lunch time in Kansas.
