Look at 2.3.6.5on pgs 52-53 of FM DS 8-9. One level IRAS at 5' OC and lower the roof storage height to whats shown. A lot easier to protect, and allows up to 20' clear. After 20', false ceiling, Equivalency FPE, etc. none of which are pretty.
Assuming AHJ would allow specific FM DS criteria since 13 doesn't. I've rarely had a problem. Lots of solutions out there without the blessings of the 13 TC and the delay in getting adopted- both in the standard and in your hometown.
