Beverage manufacturing NFPA #13 (2010 Edition) A.5.3.1 - Ordinary Hazard
Group I
Distilleries A.5.3.2 - Ordinary
Hazard Group II

Table A.5.6.3 tells you what the commodity classification is for Alcoholic
Beverages up to 20 percent

The other thing is that in the processing they may be storing some of their
grains in poly sacks or totes and in double row racks. We were given the
commodity classification of Group A plastics by the AHJ. Owner chose to
limit height of storage and looked to alternate methods which got it down to
Class III where it should be.

No storage. That is in a separate area then what the engineer is requesting
to calc at ordinary group 2.

Storage is the problem.

Finished bottled beer storage in cartons stacking?

Bags of grain storage and raw material for the process unless it is outside
storage bins.

Subject: Brewery Occupancy Clasification

We have a brewery we are installing a sprinkler system in. What's your
opinions on an occupancy classification (No major flammable material.
Just beer fermenting in tanks)? In 13, ordinary group 1 calls out beverage
manufacturing and in ordinary group 2 calls out distilleries.
Engineer on the project is calling for group 2. Opinions or past
experiences?
