What criteria have been used to determine that the "... diesel drivers
seem to be operating properly"? If they're making RPM, then are the
impellers turning at the same speed? Whole or partial disengagement can
occur, but not usually in three pumps at three different locations.

Subject: vertical turbine pump problems

I am working with a school system that has 3 diesel driven vertical
turbine fire pump at various schools, each taking suction from concrete
cisterns. The pumps range in age from 5 to 15 years old. The performance
on each of then has been declining for the past several years. Example,
churn decrease from 74 psi to 68 psi. Similar declines in flows at 100%
and 150%. The gauges on the last test were my calibrateds. An
investigation showed the suction screens are clean, so that isn't the
issue. All 3 diesel drivers seem to be operating properly. Any thoughts
on what to look for next?
