And that is why NFPA 13 has a section on miscellaneous storage...

I agree - however - I disagree. I have been told on more than one occasion
by an AHJ that if it enters a space and rests for 2 seconds, it is
stored.......So I wish there was a formal definition of the word "Storage".
I do know that in retails stores where the commodities sit in one place for
months or years, they are stored there. Without a definitive word from 13,
I have been at the mercy of the AHJ's interpretation and just do not want
to get burned again.

We just did a Mrecantile remodel where they added racks against a wall with
rolled carpet and vinyl for sale on them - the AHJ considered that rack
storage and I can't disagree because IF a fire broke out the, fire would
not care if it was mercantile or storage.

I know it may costs us work but ...
