Check out the first link for a narrative report on the fire.  Solar
panels apparently hindered aerial fire suppression efforts and this
became a massive fire.   But please also check out the second link
(flickr.com) for a series of photos that shows VERY clearly why
placement of exterior fire suppression system components can be so
critical.   We often wrestle with architects about where to put the
backflow/FDC/PIV such as they may occur and I am always trying to push
this stuff outside the limits of the height of the walls in case of
collapse.  In this fire several precast concrete panels fell - the pix
tell a compelling story.
