The IBC (2006) lists 1/2" sheetrock as a 15 min thermal barrier when talking
about foam plastic insulation. I am sure there is better documentation than
this but I think you are correct.

Subject: 15min. Thermal Barrier

I've always been under the impression that a single layer of standard sheetrock
provides the referenced 15min thermal barrier to omit heads in bathrooms
(8.15.1.1). Does anyone have documentation on that? If not, does anyone know
where that comes from?
