That's a real common occurrence on fishing vessels up here. Usually occurs
when refitting. I've seen several where a welder thinks a cable release
conduit in the engine room is a wiring conduit and cuts it with a torch
("...we're refitting XYZ down here, just go ahead a cut all the electrical
conduits out around it..."). My presumption is he stands down there
befuddled, wondering why there's a siren screaming for 30 seconds, then
dies a few seconds later when he can't find the ladder out. I've dealt with
four incidents over the years.
