I am looking at a space that is using ESFR to protect an ordinary hazard use.
In a couple of spots, there are very high heat sources (400+ degrees) that
would exceed the temperature rating of any ESFR head. NFPA 13 8.3.3.3 (2010 &
2013 ed) says that "where there is no listed quick-response sprinklers in the
temperature range required, standard-response sprinklers shall be permitted to
be used."

With that in mind, would it be acceptable (code-compliant) to simply switch out
the ESFR heads for high-temp, standard response, standard spray heads? The
resulting system could still easily supply OH2. This would be about 4 heads
(out of 2500) spaced apart from one another... not enough to really be
considered an 'adjacent system' per NFPA 13 8.4.6.4.1

It seems to fit the letter of the code - and the intent of providing OH
coverage for this area(actually way more).

Thanks!
