I never seen the reports, but I do believe hearing or reading that the tests
that were conducted following the McCormick Place fire looked at the issue.

NFPA 13-2013, in A.8.1.1 says (in part):

A.8.1.1 .... Based upon experience and testing, sprinklers have been found
to be effective and necessary at heights in excess of 50 ft (15.2 m). For a
building to meet the intended level of protection afforded by NFPA13,
sprinklers must not be omitted from such high ceiling spaces. The
requirements of this standard should be used insofar as they are applicable.

We have an A.H.J. insisting on documentation that standard spray sprinklers
are approved for installation heights of, in this case, 40 to 50 feet AFF.
This is not storage- it is Atrium and similar. For discussion purposes,
assume NFPA #13 (2013), please. We are thinking a sprinkler for this
application is not height dependent. All construction is Non-Comb, some
obstructed, some un-obstructed. I fear this might be a matter of "too
generally known to be written down anywhere", but then the A.H.J. is not
from this area.

any sharing of thoughts or experience will be appreciated!!!

thanks,
