Here in our "hot" soil, we are coating all buried metal components with Trenton wax tape and an outer layer of cellophane. This is applied even on epoxy coated components.

A 10.3.6.2 describes it not being necessary to coat ‘mechanical bolt fittings’ or epoxy-coated valves and glands. We are looking at an underground supply and are between discussions with the water purveyor and contractor on exactly what this means. Hoping someone from the list can help us with our question of identifying the difference between a joint accessory and mechanical bolt fittings that would require one to be coated and the other not? The restraint being used is FM Approved but we are also searching that out a bit more to know which specific approval it is. The manufacturer is indicating that yes, the bolts should be covered in asphalt as they are the accessory while the rings or elbows are the fittings. Does this sound right? Is this being enforced regularly in other parts of the country?
