Imagine a bulkhead against a wall (just like 8.6.5.1.2 (b) 2010 ed.). The
bulkhead is approximately 2'-2" wide and is approximately 2' below the high
ceiling. Underneath this bulkhead, there are shelves that extend all the
way to the underside of the bulkhead. Due to construction features etc, the
sprinkler head in the high ceiling cannot meet the obstruction rules for
this bulkhead. Is a sprinkler head required in the bulkhead against the
wall? If we put the sprinkler head in the bulkhead, it would lower their
storage height (18" of clearance because a sprinkler head would be directly
overtop). The logic I was using was to count the bulkhead as part of the
"shelf" and apply A8.6.6 (2010 ed), Does anyone have a different/better
code logic or do you think a sprinkler head should be in the bulkhead?
