Gerzayn,

You are correct. Listed mechanical restraint can be used in lieu of thrust
bocks. The whole point of both methods is to prevent separation of the pipe
joints due to internal and/or thrust forces. Some may choose to use both in
situations where they want the added security (maybe access to the pipe will be
extremely difficult after the project is completed - or whatever), but as Mr.
Steve said, they are not both required.

I don't have a spreadsheet, but I believe the annex of NFPA 24 provides
guidance on thrust block sizing.

Subject: Thrust block vs Restrainers - Underground

Hello, folks!

I am working with underground pipe PVC DR14 C900 for a fire sprinkler system
and I do understand that if we use restrainers (for example:
SIGMA PV-LOK-PVM and PVP) in/near the MJ fittings, we do not need to use thrust
blocks. ¿Is this true?

I would appreciate if someone could share an Excel file to calculate the thrust
block size.

Thanks

Best regards!
