I looked at this a few years back but the project never went very far (with me anyway). I also did a single stream recycling facility where the raw material is stored in piles. These tend to be deep seated fires and sprinklers will only
hope to contain them. To fully extinguish, you would have to remove the
material, spread it out in a thin layer and extinguish with hoses. The
requirements tend to have relatively low densities over a large area.
FMGlobal might have some data on this for piles of wood chips.
