All, I came across my first antifreeze system today in an existing application. I know there is no current listing of antifreeze for use in new applications which partially explains why I have never seen an antifreeze system before. The install was consistent with the arrangement of supply piping and valves section of NFPA 13. Seeing this for the first time lead me to two questions: 1) why is the 5 foot drop required? 2) what purpose do valves "A" and "B" serve in the illustration in 7.6.3 of the 2013 edition.
