I have seen something from about 1964 with the same concept. A sprinkler in
a cage, with a squib whose discharge orifice pointed to the link. Two
wires were intended to be connected in series to other squibs and to power
through alarm contacts on a agent release control unit (In those days a
fire alarm control unit. It was touted as a way to make a mini deluge
system.

There have been other pyrotechnic units. Fenwall's squibs for halon
release, for one. One I had, but lost along the way was a flattened tube
about an inch long. The intent was to sew it to bed clothing. Heat from a
fire was to cause the contents to go off with a bang. Also I have a
metallic half-dome shaped thingy which has a fusible link, spring-loaded
plunger and a blank 32 caliber cartridge. It is from about the 1920's.
And get this--It is of the quick response family.

I could send a picture if anyone is interested.
