Yeah..and there won't be a short term class that can do both - there
shouldn't be. Totally different training goals.
Send him to AFSA first...then to software training.
Nothing worse than the guy in software training class asking basic
design questions that you are supposed to know prior to the class.

I guess the separate class thing may be the way to go now that you
mention it. I guess there’s really no point in learning it on AutoCAD
when we have (2) seats of AutoSPRINK here J

IMO: 2 week designer training class with AFSA. When I worked in a
contractor's office, we used to send people there after they have been
working for 6 months. We wanted to make sure they were going to
stay. I was never disappointed with the results from that program.
Then, send them to the 1 week Autosprink training class. AS does not
require AutoCAD background. They just need to know how to use a
computer. Everything else is taught in that first week class. 6
months later send them to intermediate training.
Those two programs would provide the best bang for the buck.
Remember the old question / answer: What if I train them and they
leave? What if you don't and they stay?

We have a guy here at the office that was originally brought in to
help with the estimating and material take-off. He’s been here 3
years now and has a good grasp of the industry and we’d like to
move him into more of a designer role. We’d like to send him to a
class for a week or two and have found some on the internet but
from what I can tell they’re mostly book based and not really
hands on designing. Any suggestion out there for something that
covers the book and the cadd side of it?
