NFPA 13 (07)ed Section 9.2.3.2.1 and 9.2.3.2.2
9.2.3.2.1 Unless the requirements of 9.2.3.2.2 or 9.2.3.2.3 are met, there shall be not less than one hanger for each section of pipe. 9.2.3.2.2 Where sprinklers are spaced less that 6ft apart, hangers spaced up to a maximum of 12ft shall be permitted. The appendix also states that this also includes multiple pipe fittings when they are installed not more than 6ft apart. We have a situation where there is an existing 21ft welded branch line with 2 hangers on it 12ft apart. Due to a leak in the pipe we had to cut out a 7ft chunk in the middle and replace it. The site engineer is telling us that we need to install an additional hanger on this piece because the couplings are more than 6ft apart. Is he right? What if the pipe is 21ft with welded outlets greater than 6ft apart? Do we need hangers between every outlet? Thanks, Dewayne
