For ceiling heights over 30 feet using ESFR sprinklers, maximum area is 100 sq.ft. and maximum spacing is 10 feet. NFPA permits the spacing to be increased up to 12 feet to eliminate obstructions, subject to area restrictions and adjacent branch lines maintaining the same pattern. This variance is permitted to "eliminate obstructions". My question is can the spacing be increased even without obstructions? I would think why not? But as the text language is specific, thought I will canvass for other opinions.
Looking at it another way, if the ceiling height is over 30 feet, in a bay without obstructions, can all of the ESFR sprinklers in that bay be laid out at 11 feet x 9 feet? Tony
