(1) General. Metal water piping system(s) installed in or

attached to a building or structure shall be bonded to any of

the following:

(1) Service equipment enclosure

(2) Grounded conductor at the service

(3) Grounding electrode conductor if of sufficient size

(4) One or more grounding electrodes used, if the grounding

electrode conductor or bonding jumper to the

grounding electrode is of sufficient size

The bonding jumper(s) shall be installed in accordance with

Subject: RE: Grounding Electrical Wire to Sprinkler System

Correct cannot be used for "GROUNDING".

However per the NEC all metallic water piping including sprinkler piping is
required to be "BONDED".

GROUNDING = Used to connect the building electrical system to Earth. Fire
Sprinkler piping including Underground, FDC's etc are not considered ground
electrodes by the NEC. So they cannot be used for that purpose

BONDING = To connect all metallic parts to the electrical system of the
building such that these items cannot become energized resulting in the risk of
electrocution Bonding allows fault current to flow through the bonding wire
connection thus enabling sufficient current to flow tripping the connected
circuit breaker eliminating the hazardous condition.

Hope that helps.

Subject: Grounding Electrical Wire to Sprinkler System

Where in NFPA 13 does it say that the sprinkler system can not be used to ground

the electrical system?

Thanks,
