Matt, 401's big advantage for us old timers was the amount of adjustments.  We
used to be able to precut all drops and with them would hit 80 to 90 % and
field cut very few.  Great labor savers of designed properly.Jim AdamsSent from

Subject: 401 style escutcheons

I recently was working on a retail box project where the customer insisted on
using 401 style trim instead of semi-recessed. (plans called for one, specs
called for other)

Is there any functional advantage to 401’s that anyone knows about? All of the
lights and other surface mounted obstructions could be spaced to without any
issue. I just don’t get a lot of requests for 401 trim. The customer was 100%
sure
that is what they wanted, but did not offer any explanation.
