Good afternoon all, I have an existing open office with 10'-0" ceilings protected by EC LH (18x18) pendent sprinklers. The new owner of the building would like to put in 8'-6" tall self-storage units with open mesh ceilings. They have fantastic water and I would like to switch the sprinklers to ECOH and recalculate to prove the system works. The issue is that 8.8.5.2.2 in the 2013 and 2016 editions of NFPA 13 (11.2.5.2.2 in the 2019 Edition) only references light hazard occupancies.
Okay, 8.8.5.2.2 doesn't apply for 18" of clearance. What does apply? What if I was 36" above the partition? More? It looks like I need to protect each unit individually and use baffles when the sprinklers get too close. What do you think?
