Hello all,

1. NFPA 1142 indicates the minimum storage tank capacity for rural area fire
sprinkler system. If based on calculations in 1142 we come up with minimum tank
size of say 7,000 gallons, how does that reconcile with NFPA 13 if we need say
500 GPM x 30 min = 15,000 gallons. Or does that simply mean that 7,000 gallons
is the minimum however NFPA 13 requirement of the larger tank prevails?

2. What happens if NFPA 1142 for a larger building results in a tank size
larger than what is required by NFPA 13? Which size do we go by?

3. We am proposing a concrete underground storage tank (be it 15,000 gallons
or 7,000 based on NFPA 1142), with a dry fire hydrant tapped off the tank for
the fire dept and a vertical turbine fire pump for fire sprinkler system of the
cluster of 10 small buildings (~2,500 sq ft each), with the fire pump sized for
a single fire event.

4. Is it better (or less costly) to go with electric pump with generator back
up or a diesel fire pump? Estimated 500 GPM, 40 HP motor.

Your responses are appreciated.
