My experience has been that if it’s an accessory use room for a performing arts
building (and I’m not referring to common areas like a restroom, office or
lobby), then it can (and will!) be used for storage, set building, whatever.
Film and TV studios may contain a wide range of combustibles and it’s probably
safest to call it an OH. Whether it’s Group 1 or Group 2 probably isn’t a big
cost impact, so we generally go OH2. But we’re not design/builders so we view
that decision differently that an installing contractor might. Still, how
big is the room and what’s the cost impact of adding a couple sprinklers (if
that’s required) and doing a room design calculation on that space?

A theatre (for theatrical performances) has a room named "Film Studio". I'm
trying to get more information, but meanwhile does anyone know the design
occupancy for a standard film studio? The contractor wants to design this room
to light hazard, but I'm not sure.
