Todd,

Then I would be very concerned.

What this suggests to me is that the available water supply is not capable of delivering the pressure required.

Now why it can't do so is worthy of investigating.  Some things which come immediately to mind are a completely or partially closed valve, which limits the pressure delivered to the riser, or a reduction by the water purveyor in the pressure supplied, or perhaps expansion of the supply system in the particular area resulting in pressures which do not meet the demand to adequately supply the sprinkler system.

For me, it's enough to just note that the pressure has been reduced from what the system was originally designed with, and why.

I relate a situation some years back where a development in San Diego county compromised the water supply to the point where more than a dozen warehouse buildings had to provide a fire pump to meet the demand of their ESFR systems.

Find out why, Todd,

Todd, if I’m reading this correctly that means you have a safety margin on your system. That’s a good thing that your system provides more pressure than is required.

It would be cause for concern if the gauge showed less than required.

Um, that’s not an unusual thing. Pretty standard.

I have run into a couple of situations where the required pressure as shown on the system placard is less than the static pressure on the riser. I found another one today during a survey. If others are finding this, how do they handle it?
