- Straight-through Flow

A little more clarification to Taylor's response: It's only req'd for a 13D
system IF you're using the simplified calculation method using only the static
pressure. 13D then points you to their charts for friction loss which includes
CPVC tees on the run. If you're calculating a 13D system using a *full flow
test* then you're pointed to NFPA 13 which does not require tee's on the run as
you pointed out. But you wouldn't include these on a 13 or 13R System, I
believe it's in the manufacturer's data just in case you do need it.

Kyle, those lengths are to be used for 13D calculations. They’re allowed

Subject: [Sprinklerforum] Hydraulic Calculations for CPVC - Tees -
Straight-through Flow

NFPA 13 clearly states that “fitting loss for straight-through flow in a tee or
cross shall not be included”. But some of the manufacturer’s data for CPVC
products specifically lists equivalent lengths for these fittings (tee on the
run) as well as for couplings.

So, are those equivalent lengths intended/required to be included in the
hydraulic calculations? If so, is it all the time or only in certain
situations? Someone suggested to me that if might be a requirement of 13D or
13R, but not 13. I haven’t found that yet, though.

Thanks.
