I am working on a project in a wood frame building where they have ceilings
at varying heights. In the high ceiling areas (about 50% of the space), there
is 5” between the ceiling and the bottom of the joists. These do not require
sprinklers per 9.1.2.5. In the low ceiling areas, there is 10” to 12”, so
concealed space sprinklers would need to be installed above those. There are
also soffits along some walls that are 18” to 24” wide that technically would
require sprinklers even though the surrounding areas don’t. Is there a point
where I don’t need consider small spaces in placing CC’s?
