I hope I am reading this wrong but here goes. We are using NFPA #13 (2022ed) section 23.4.
We have a client that said they would be storing exposed expanded group A plastics on racking and we advised about the requirement for vertical barriers. They now supply us with the racking drawing and they have multi-row racking, I had assumed the same requirement for the vertical barriers, but the more I read the more confused I have become. Section 23.4 Protection of Exposed Expanded Group A Plastics. 23.4.1 Protection on single, double and multi-row racking 23.4.7 Racks shall have vertical barriers spaced at not more than 16'-6" 23.4.7.2 The plan area of storage between the vertical barriers and aisles shall not exceed 124ft² So if my math is correct and they install a vertical barrier at every second upright (16'6") apart this would mean that the maximum rack depth would be 7'-6". 124/16.5=7.5 This is barely double row racks with a flue space and would never be able to protect multi-row racking. I guess my question is have I missed something or is this correct? Thank You James Crawford Phaser Fire Protection Ltd.
