I’m curious since I am only a lowly sprinkler man, does sparging remove the 
oxygen or just increase the nitrogen levels?  I’d imagine you would still have 
oxygen present if it is not vented or filtered out.

I did a quick Google search, and this is what it said.
“While both "sparging" and "nitrogen purging" involve using nitrogen to 
displace other gases, sparging specifically refers to bubbling nitrogen through 
a liquid to remove dissolved gases like oxygen, while purging typically refers 
to displacing air in a closed space with nitrogen; essentially, sparging is a 
more targeted process that occurs within a liquid, whereas purging is a broader 
application to remove unwanted gases from a container or system”
