When in doubt the NFPA Glossary of Terms is also very helpful when the
pertinent standard does not contain a definition – I usually head there before
I hit Merriam’s.

NFPA standards (Chapter 3) state that where a definition is not provided within
the standard, go to Merriam Webster's 11th edition Collegiate dictionary. There
is no intent to use words that confuse protection requirements.

Subject: [Sprinklerforum] Stanchion

What is an stanchion? I searched NFPA site using search bar for all codes. That
came up with bathroom supports and objects used to cordened off an area. I
thought stanchion was a piece of pipe like on a monitor nozzle?
Thanks
Tim
