I have a situation where there is a high Cp value of 1.17. The project
is an old wood structure requiring
seismic bracing. There is noway to brace this without adding
longitudinal braces to the branch lines.
NFPA 13 (2025), 18.5.9.6 The zone of influence for lateral braces shall
include all branch lines, drops, sprigs, and mains tributary to the
brace, except branch lines that are provided with longitudinal bracing.
My question is, can one longitudinal brace spanning both sides of the
cross main satisfy the requirement?
The brace will be within 40' of either end and will calculate for an 80'
long zone of influence.
As well, the riser nipples will be included in the lateral brace
calculations per 8.5.9.6.1.
