HYDRAULIC CALCULATION PROCEDURE
A new section was added regarding hydraulic calculation procedures to clarify where the hydraulic calculations should terminate. This new section is located at 22.4.1.5 and states, "Hydraulic calculations shall extend to the effective point of the water supply where the characteristics of the water supply are known." The intent of this section is to clarify where the calculation terminates for a looped water supply and a connection to a dead end main. The two are handled differently. The water supply data from a flow test can be carried to any point between the flow (pitot pressure) and test hydrants (static and residual pressures) for a looped system. The calculations for a dead end main have to be continued to the test hydrant (static and residual pressures). The purpose of this is that the residual pressure is not really known past the flow hydrant. Thus the calculations have to be taken to the test hydrant for a dead end main connection.
