I noticed the installation instructions on the web had been updated recently:
http://code.google.com/p/spyderlib/wiki/Installation Thanks for providing the explicit note about the dependence on rope. I guess I had assumed that rope had been rolled into spyderlib itself. That would explain why my code completion didn't seem to work in Spyder 2.X :).
