This is the only group we have, so don't worry about it. Now about your
problems:
a) No clue why that's happening to you. Are you on Win8?
b) The problem is with this line in our scientific startup script:

Pylab adds a lot of things to your namespace by default (i.e. most numpy
and matplotlib). That's why you're seeing a huge dir output.
c) Font sizes can be changed using our Preferences pane.
