I downloaded 2.2.0 and it didn't work immediately because of an outdated libpng. However I installed a new libpng from http://ethan.tira-thompson.com/Mac_OS_X_Ports.html and it seems to work now. I read somewhere that building with the new libpng could cause problems on snow leopard but I'm just interested in running spyder/matplotlib so hopefully things are ok.
