Hello,

I tried to send a message yesterday but I may have failed, so I start again
; please excuse me and skip the following if the previous message was OK.

Running Spyder fine on Linux, I tried to install it on a Mac Book pro with
Os 10.6.4, using Spyder-2.2.1.dmg, after having installed Python 2.7.5,
Qt-4.7.4, sip-4.15 and PyQt-4.10.3, and checked that these runned correctly
together.

Unfortunately Spyder fails to launch with the error 'Please check Spyder
installation requirements: PyQt4 4.4+ (or PySide 1.1.1+) is required.' with
the console messages attached below.

As I am still new to python and newer to mac applications, I don't know
what the problem is, and if it can be solved.
Using the console messages, I added messages to the try part of
spyderlib.requirements.py importing qt from spyderlib (lines 39 to 50), and
also in the try section of spyderlib.spyder.py importing qt from
Ipython.external (lines 43 to 50), from which it seems that both imports
fail. But not knowing about the import machinery, I can't do more.

I couldn't use Anaconda distribution because it needs a 64bits kernel and
my mac book pro is a 32bits, so I downloaded Spyder-2.2.3 sources, which
compiled correctly and run nicely from the terminal (as well as the running
without install), and I can easily live with that.
But as I would like to get the whole "mac flavor" by launching directly
Spyder as a mac application, and as it may help mac users who have similar
problems, any help is welcomed.

Thanks to the Spyder team for their commitment in the development of this
efficient IDE.
