Works for me with 2.3.
Are you sure you are closing the pane and not just the console?
The way I do it is:
1) Close the IPython tab/console. This will prompt for killing the
iPython kernel.
2) Close the pane by either:
a) Use the x on the pane
or
b) Uncheck View --> Panes ==> iPython console
Is there a preference or something I can do to change that?
