Thanks for the quick answers. I used sudo pip install --upgrade spyder
My version of setuptools is 5.4.1 (I just updated it when I saw the
error message).
My versions are:
aklaver@killi:~> pip list | grep -i pip
pip (1.5.6)
aklaver@killi:~> pip list | grep -i setuptools
setuptools (5.4.1)
I just uninstalled and then installed Spyder to confirm it worked.
While working on this I found I had some old versions of Distribute and
Setuptools lying around. They did not seem to affect my installs, but
maybe in your case there is a version mismatch causing problems.
