FYI, spyder is entering the official packages on Arch Linux:
https://aur.archlinux.org//pkgbase/spyder/. It is not much, but it shows
that enough people use it to be considered as important.
Following the discussion could also help to improve packaging and
installation of spyder (they're talking about icons and .desktop, I
don't know what is really useful for us).
