At the moment, you need to open notebooks using the Options menu of the 
Notebook plugin: select the Notebook tab and click on the cogwheel icon in 
the upper right corner (next to the plus icon).

We realize this is not ideal and we are planning to change this in the next 
major release of spyder-notebook. You can follow progress on this issue at 
https://github.com/spyder-ide/spyder-notebook/issues/134
