The server must support unions, subselects, transactions and you must have a DBD module for it.
The only restriction you have is that you cannot use the admin functions to setup new datasets and must do this with your monitor. 1) get the DBD driver 2) use one of the schemas (Pg or Oracle) and create the tables 3) populate the chart of accounts and gifi This is also described in the README how to setup tables manually.
