Dropdown lists are good for a few items but become a real burden when you
have thousands of parts. In fact, dropdown lists for customers and vendors
have also been rewritten into a free form search because some companies
have in excess of 60,000 customers. I should add that you still have a
choice to use dropdown lists but there is an internal limit when the
switchover occurs. Some browsers work reasonably fast with 4000 names
(Netscape), others slow down too much already, so I set the limit to 1000
names.
