Or be very blunt and after finding out the part_id X of the assembly
do a manual update of the onhand quantity:

update parts set onhand=o where part_id=x

I think you can even skip the normal restrictive part (where part_id=
x y z ) when you have no inventory.
However, this might very welll screw up COGS, same as selling it for
zero as someone else suggested.
So I suggest to make a backup, restore all data into a test-firm and
try both solutions in this testfim first.
Good SOP (standard operating practice) anyhow..
