John, I know it's been a while since you sent this note to the House of
Fusion SQL-talk list. I'm just catching up on those notes. You had expressed
interest in creating a CF User group in the Southern CA area. How's that
going?

I'm a regular speaker to user groups on the east coast, and I'd love to come
out there as well. Besides having lots of potential topics (see
http://www.systemanage.com/service_usergroups.cfm--ok, it's not the
prettiest site in the world), I'm also a monthly writer for ColdFusion
Developers Journal magazine, as well as a contributor to several books.

I realize that most groups can't afford to pay speakers (let alone cover
their traveling expenses), but I've had good luck with arranging either
consulting visits (day or two engagements, in conjunction with coming out
for the meeting, addressing a variety of potential issues). I've also now
started putting together some day-long seminars, which can be offered either
publicly (at low prices per person) or on-site (to one or more corporate
groups).

The first of these is "What's New in CF5: More Than You May Know" where I
cover lots more than most articles, presentations, and even the docs do, not
only on the typical new things that are mentioned but dozens more that
aren't as sexy from a marketing perspective but truly useful for developers.
I also cover what's not working well, what was broken before but it now
fixed, what is now deprecated, and lots more. Anyway, you can read more
about that at http://www.systemanage.com/CF5inDepth.cfm

I'm again just sharing that to suggest that if I could arrange to give
either a public or private presentation of that talk, I could also be
available for a user group talk (indeed, I have a one hour highly condensed
version of the "what's new talk" just for this purpose, to serve as a
precursor to a seminar to follow on the next day or even following weekend).
But as the other page shows there are plenty of other topics available, and
indeed I'm always open to covering any topic that a group may be interested
in.

If you'd like to discuss this further, please let me know. If this has been
an unwanted intrusion, my sincere apologies.

/charlie

Sorry if you got this already but since not a soul replied (are there no
Southern CA, IE CF'ers out there?? :-() I'm trying again, my first post was
right before a mail server hiccup I think so maybe the message got
bamboozled somewhere.

I'm interested in starting a CFUG in the Inland Empire area of Southern CA
(Riverside, Corona area) I've got a place to hold the meetings in Corona but
would like to gauge interest, since there's no point in trying to get one
started if I'm the only one out here interested. That way for those living
in Corona, Riverside and beyond the meetings are at least on the way home
rather than hanging out in Irvine until 6:30 then driving home at 9:30 10pm.

If you have any questions or just want to raise your hand in the I'm in
column email me off list so I can keep better tabs.

Thanks a lot.

J.
