before you run the select statements run SET DATEFORMAT DMY (if indeed you are intending your dates to be in the format "dd/mm/yy"

I tried using the >= and <= operators but it still does the same thing. Anyone have some ideas as to why the second range of dates grabs the values searched for but also includes the previous years?
