Is there some problem, that you need to replace the RAID
controller? Using the mirroring that is built into Windows Server
(regardless of version) is really not a good way to safeguard your data.
If you really MUST switch over to IDE hard drives, spend the money it
takes to get a server-class IDE RAID controller so you at least can do it
in hardware instead of software.
Also, remember that Microsoft recommends RAID 5 for the database
files and RAID 1 for the transaction logs, if you are looking for the
absolute best performance under RAID.

I am currently running SQL Server 2000 and ColdFusion MX on a DELL server
with Windows 2000 Server, Raid Controller with 10,000 RPM SCSI hard
drives.
We are considering switching to 7200 RPM IDE hardrives and the use of
mirroring to replace the raid controller...Is there any references that
you
can share that would enlighten me on the pros and cons of both. Thanks.
