MSSQL Server 2000 does have an undocumented encrypt/decrypt feature, but
I've used the XP_Crypt stored procedure from  www.activecrypt.com in the
past and it's been very reliable. XP_Crypt encrypts and decrypts everything
server side, so it doesn't impact applications.
