Just in case you haven't tumbled to this, it's worth running setup.py
with the "develop" command instead of "install". The former forges a
link to your svn checkout version; the latter bundles it all up into an
egg, which makes it difficult to inspect and update in a hurry (or, in
fact, at all).

python setup.py develop
