i'm trying to use the select syntax at building queries

I can't seem to place a boolean field into the select statement
Based on the docs, I've tried :
VerificationHash.c.is_active == False,
VerificationHash.c.is_active == 'False',
not_(VerificationHash.c.is_active)
Does anyone have a clue? I'm using postgres 8
